How to Catch Trout:

Fishing can be a pleasing and fun experience. If you’re a fishing enthusiast, you’ll need to know the tips on how to catch trout. Following are important trout fishing tips:

Know the rules:

Every state or province has its own fishing rules and regulations. To know the fishing guidelines set by your state, you can check the booklet on rules and regulations published by your state’s wildlife management department. You will be first required to buy a fishing license.

Get the right equipment:

Second most important trout fishing tip is to choose the right equipment. You have to be well equipped with good rod and reel combinations, lines, hooks and weights.

Choose the right river:

For trout fishing, you need to find a river that naturally has trout fishes. You will find information about such rivers in the wildlife management booklet. Rivers, which have a naturally reproducing trout population, sometimes have stricter tackle-and-bait restrictions that can complicate your trout catching experience.

Choose the right tackle:

Selecting the right tackle is very important in trout fishing activity. You may prefer using a light tackle to catch river trout. The weight range of the fish will be printed on the fishing pole. It will be beneficial for you to buy a rod rated up to 6 lbs. Also, you need to avoid using the enclosed type of fishing reel having a button on it. Such reels are prone to internal tangles. You can prefer using closed face reel, as it is relatively much easy to use. You also need to buy #6 to #10 hooks, 4 to 8 lb test fishing line, a net and the "split shot" weights, which are simply pinched onto the line.

Get the right bait:

Before selecting particular bait for trout fishing, you need to go through the rules and regulations to check the type of permissible bait. Three most preferred trout fishing baits are canned corn kernels, earthworms, and salmon roe.

Always cast your bait upstream:

By casting upstream, you will allow your lure or bait to drift with the current and appear more natural and real. For trout fishing, you can go 20-50 feet downstream and then, cast your bait upstream. You need to know that most trouts face upstream and anticipate for the lure or bait to be washed by the water towards them. Hence, if you go downstream, the trout won’t be able to see you and you can easily catch them.

Check the weather forecast:

This is another important trout fishing tip. It is very important for you to be aware of the weather conditions before going for trout fishing. Based on the weather condition, you can choose the most appropriate bait. For instance, during a rainstorm and within 24 hours of it, you can prefer using earthworms as bait. On the windy days, baits such as crickets or grasshoppers will be your best option.

Set the hook properly:

You can consider setting the hook by jerking the rod tip 1-2 ft in the upward direction while trout fishing. After you have hooked the trout fish, your rod will be bent over constantly. You need to reel in slowly and ensure to keep the rod tip well aware your head. After reeling the fish back into the shore, you can use your net and scoop it up.
